It’s Fun to Race and be a Part of the MYC Junior Race Team!

2015jrTeam-300x171Racing is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the sport of sailing. Being part of a very fun team of fellow sailors makes it even more fun!

The MYC Junior Racing Program offers youth sailors age 8-19 several opportunities to explore and experience sailboat racing.

On June 15-18, we will kick off the summer of 2020 with a one week Race Camp from 12:00pm until 4:00pm each day. Experienced sailors will continue to sharpen their skills with lots of on-the-water coaching and drills. Sailors who are new to racing will learn about the Racing Rules, how regattas are conducted, and build their confidence through on-the-water coaching. Sailors can register for Race Camp here or on the MYC Sailing School web site.

We will also conduct weekly Race Team practices on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm-5:30pm starting June 17. These practices will run every Wednesday until Aug 12.

The 2020 Junior racing season will include one Saturday regatta at Muskegon Yacht Club as well as four regional WMYSA Friday regattas where we join sailors from all over West Michigan. Other opportunities for junior sailors include the Butterfly Nationals July 14-16 at Spring Lake Yacht Club, the WMYA Westerns Regatta at Torch Lake Yacht Club Aug 6-9, and the US Sailing Junior Olympics at Macatawa Bay October 9-11.

Our coaching staff includes sailors with impressive racing backgrounds. Their experience and knowledge will assure that each MYC sailor is prepared for the fun and satisfaction of competitive sailing.
