Overview

lifebuoy_250Muskegon Yacht Club will be offering the U.S. Sailing Safety at Sea seminar on Saturday, May 6, 2017, with an optional, hands-on second day on Sunday, May 7, 2017.

The classroom and optional hands-on training in the Safety at Sea curriculum are designed to enhance your sailing skills and help make you, your boat and your crew safer. A panel of professionals, including Brian Adams, Dr. Don Crandall, and Bob Dukesherer, have tailored their presentations to give you as much information as possible.  A general overview of the U.S. Sailing Safety at Sea curriculum can be found here:  http://www.ussailing.org/education/safety-at-sea/

Many race regulations, including the Chicago Mac Safety Regulations, strongly recommend that at least 30% of each boat’s crew have valid offshore Safety at Sea Certifications (issued within 5 years before the race).

Day One (Saturday) will be held in the 150-seat Foundation Hall, Stevenson Center, Muskegon Community College, 221 S. Quarterline Road, Muskegon, Michigan (see map below).  Registration will be from 7:30 until 8:00am.  Presentations will begin at 8:00am and conclude by 5:00pm.  A continental breakfast will be served and a boxed lunch will be provided.

A final syllabus will be emailed to participants the week prior to the event.  Day two participants will receive a separate email detailing the equipment needed for day two.

Day Two (Sunday) will be held at Muskegon Yacht Club, 3198 Edgewater Street, Muskegon, Michigan.  Registration will be from 7:30am until 8:00am.  Presentations will begin at 8:00am and conclude by 3:30pm.  A continental breakfast will be served and a buffet lunch will be available for purchase.  We have USCG approval for flare use during the event.
