MJYC Boat Use Rules

 

  1. Muskegon Junior Yacht Club JY15’s, Laser Radials, Butterflies and Prams are available for use by sailing school students during class with a $25 charter fee per 2 weeks of lessons (15 hrs.), maximum season charter fee $50. All charter fees are for shared use. Fees to be paid with lesson registration.

 

  1. JY15’s and Laser Radials are available to use for adult Tuesday evening races by MYC members for a $50 seasonal fee. Sign up for Tuesday adult JY15 races is done on the previous Tuesday’s race. Sign-out lists must be turned in to the Club’s Office after each race.

 

  1. JY15’s, Laser Radials, Butterflies and Prams are available for Junior Saturday am races by MYC members and non-member current sailing school students. Only MYC Junior and family members are eligible for trophies and awards at November’s banquet. (Junior membership for the full season is $50) The race committee, to those who have demonstrated sailing ability, appropriate use, care and safety, will assign boats. 

 

  1. Junior members wanting to sign out practice Butterflies and Prams for recreational use must be approved through the sailing school director, and a card issued. Parents must complete a liability form. Cards will be issued to those who have demonstrated appropriate sailing skills, safety and care in boat use. Card issue is best done before 5pm on weekdays during sailing school or calling to schedule a convenient time. There is a $50 seasonal fee for recreational use paid at the time of card issue. The head instructor and director reserve the right to revoke use. Cards must be shown to the pool lifeguard for boat sign-out. Give your name and, hull #.  Boats must be returned before dusk. Sign-out sheets are turned in to the Club’s Office.

 

  1. Adult members wanting to sign out Club practice boats for recreational use can pay a $10 per use fee or a seasonal charter of $50 to the Club Office. Sign out boats with the pool lifeguard by giving your name, member account number and, hull #. Match the hull # to the rigging # for safe fitting of rigging. Boats must be returned before dusk. Put all rigging back where it was found. JY15, Laser Radial and racing Butterfly rigging will be lock up. Pre-arrange use with the sailing director or head instructor.

 

  1. Sign out a racing JY15, Butterfly, or Laser Radial for regattas through the sailing director. The $50 seasonal charter fee must be satisfied. Previous regatta participation, club racing record and race team participation will influence boat assignment. Charter boats may not be available for all that want regatta use. Torresen Marine carries boats for purchase.

 

  1. Sailors are responsible for lost and damaged equipment. Report all loss and damage to the Club office. Not reporting could cause your loss of boat use privileges, without refund. 

 

  1. Sailors are responsible for proper storage of all equipment used. Continued disrespect for property will cause loss of boat use privileges, without refund.

 

  1. Sailors MUST wear a life jacket at all times.
